Virender Sehwag, the former swashbuckling opener was impressed by the return of Virat Kohli in form as he scored his 26th fifty in 2nd T20I against England further explaining how watching him bat should be a lesson for youngsters like Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan.
Virender Sehwag pointed out a similarity between him and the great legendary former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, and explained his point better, by mentioning how the former India captain would explain to Virender Sehwag the value of making the most of an inning.
Virender Sehwag: Rishabh Pant And Ishan Kishan Should Learn From Virat Kohli To Finish The Match And Remain Unbeaten
A regular feature of Virat Kohli’s batting in his career has been the number of times he has remained unbeaten especially in the shortest format. In fact, in 81 T20I innings, the India captain has remained not out 22 times, which proves just how good he is.
After a long time, Virat Kohli, the master of the chase was on display, batted in full throttle, and guided India home in the second T20I against England on Sunday. Virat Kohli, who is on a lean patch, returned to form by scoring 73 off 49 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes besides being unbeaten. His return to form couldn’t come at a better time as the T20I World Cup is a few months away.
” When it’s Virat Kohli’s days, he ensures he finishes the match and is right there till the end, irrespective of the format he is batting in. This is a special aspect about his batting. Like Ajay (Jadeja) said, Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan should learn from Kohli, that when it’s your day, just don’t get out. That’s exactly what Tendulkar used to do,” Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

“He used to tell me ‘if today is a good day for you, then play as long as you can, remain not out and score runs’ because what kind of day you have tomorrow, whether you’ll score runs, is not known. But today you know the way you’re playing, the ball is appearing like a football,” Virender Sehwag added.
Ishan Kishan also impressed with a 28-ball half-century in his first outing in India colours, but the youngster lost his wicket, by being trapped plumb in front of the wicket to spinner Adil Rashid for 56 off 32 balls in the same over where he had smacked consecutive sixes to bring up his fifty. Ishan Kishan was joined by the Indian captain and the duo went on to share a 94-run second-wicket stand between them.
Virender Sehwag: It’s Important To Remain Unbeaten Which Wasn’t The Case For Rishabh Pant
As for Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batsman had raced to 26 off 13 balls with two fours and as many sixes before a rush of adrenaline saw him hit Chris Jordan to Jonny Bairstow at long-on. Although at that stage, India was nicely motoring along, it would have been a different feeling to close out the match, reckoned Virender Sehwag.
“So make the most of it and stay not out because it’s important. This holds true for both Pant and Kishan, more so for Pant because when he came out to bat, he had hit a six and a four in that over. Had he rotated the strike, waited for the bad balls, the match could have been over sooner,” the former India opening batsman said.
Rishabh Pant scored 274 runs in 3 Tests in Australia averaging 68.5. He scored 91,11, unbeaten 58, 8, and 101 in the 5 innings against England. He managed 270 runs against England in 4 Tests averaging 54.
Rishabh Pant’s average has been less than 30 and he has managed only 3 fifties in both the limited-overs formats combined as he has most often gifted his wicket but he will look to make amends in the remaining 3 T20Is and if selected in the 3 ODIs that follows the T20I series.

Ishant Sharma Is Bowling A Lot Further: Sunil Gavaskar
Over the last 2-3 years, Ishant Sharma has re-established himself in the Indian team, having made some technical adjustments in his bowling action. After Ishant Sharma bagged his 300th scalp in the longest format, Sunil Gavaskar highlighted the changes that the lanky speedster has made in his bowling action.
Explaining the tweaks that Ishant Sharma has made in his bowling, Sunil Gavaskar explained that the pacer now bowls a lot further on the wicket than he earlier used to. The change in length is what has made him a better wicket-taking bowler in red-ball cricket.
“He’s bowling a lot further. He was earlier on bowling maybe around 18 inches shorter and so, therefore, was going past the outside edge, beating the batsmen. It was all looking very good but in the wickets column he wasn’t actually showing results,” Gavaskar said during the tea interval on Day 4 of the first Test against Chennai.
“Now that he’s started doing that in the last 2-3 years, this the kind of dismissals he gets – LBW, with the ball keeping low. The further you bowl, the more you get the opportunity to make the bowl move in the air or off the pitch.”
Playing his 98th Test for India, Ishant Sharma bagged three more scalps in the second innings to breach the 300-wicket mark. He had earlier claimed two wickets of Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer in the first innings against England at Chepauk.
Ishant Sharma Joins Elite List Comprising Of Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, And Ravichandran Ashwin
Having entered the 300-wicket club, Ishant Sharma has now joined an elite list consisting of legendary Indian bowlers like Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Over the last three years itself, the lanky pacer has picked 47 wickets in 19 Tests. In comparison, the tall pacer had 172 wickets to his name in 60 Tests in the first 8 years of his career (2010 to 2017). Considering the injury issues he has had of late, the Delhi-born pacer’s figures are truly exceptional.
